Grade: 9

This is an exciting course covering various aspects of theatre. The course will include workshops on voice and speech, mime, acting, performance, costuming, lighting and sound, and producing and directing. Students will be expected to participate fully in all performance activities in class. There will be classes in the theory and history of theatre. Enthusiasm, energy, and a desire to learn are the only prerequisites for this course.

We begin the production season with a non-musical play which is selected based on the talents of the students. These productions are performed in the KPAC (Kneuven Performing Arts Center) with up to six performances of each show. Selections rotate through comedy, drama, classical, and contemporary selections.  Previous productions include: The Play That Goes Wrong, Radium Girls, Inherit the Wind, You Can't Take It With You, Little Women, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The The Crucible, Our Town.

Winter One-Act: Upper-level Theatre Studies 3 and 4 Honors students write and direct a one-act play in February or March. This play is written for ninth and 10th-grade performers to showcase new talent and Morris Catholic.

Spring Musical: large-scale production, featuring close to 100 students every year in the cast, crew, and orchestra. Rehearsal goes from January until late April or early May when the show is performed. All are welcome, and no one is cut from the production. Past productions include: Into the Woods, 42nd Street, Big Fish, Footloose, Ragtime, Titanic, Les Miserables, Fame, Godspell.
