Dance IV Honors
Grades: 11, 12 Credits: 5
Prerequisites: Dance I, II, and III or instructor approval T
his course is designed to be a continuation of Dance III and will serve as an advanced level of dance focusing on technique, independent study, teaching, and production. In this course, students will continue to build upon Ballet, Modern/Contemporary, and Jazz techniques as well as an introduction to world dance. Students will dive deeper into choreography through exploration of the elements of dance. In addition, will build upon their understanding of specific historical events and important artists/cultures that have influenced dance. In this course, students will be responsible for developing production plans and aiding in dance concert preparation as well as develop curriculum/unit plans for teaching technique and dance for children classes. Students will also be participating in more advanced choreography studies and improvisational activities to give them a chance to create their own phrases. This course is designed to prepare dancers who wish to pursue dance in college and beyond, as well as those who just want to broaden their experience in dance and performance. Performance is required for this course. Students will need dance attire and costume pieces (as necessary).
