FRESHMAN TAKING THE ACT

FRESHMAN TAKING THE ACT

This year, the freshman will all be taking EXPLORE,  ACT’s college readiness program for 9th graders on Wednesday, October 15th during the school day. Why the ACT? Perhaps as you read on, you will understand the rationale for exposing students to this assessment.

  • The results from Explore will help counselors and parents keep their students on track for college.

  • The assessment will help students find careers that match their interests.

  • Helps choose those courses that will get them ready for college.

  • Shows students the subjects that need improvement.

  • Helps students see which subjects are most important for certain careers.

Once the results come back, the counselor will meet with each student and review the findings. You will also receive a folder that explains very clearly where parents can find additional careers or just more information on how this terrific program works. With the help of Explore, students will ultimately have a better understanding of their strengths and interests. It will follow them throughout high school and provide concrete information for them to research with their guidance counselor.  As a side benefit, these students will have been exposed to the ACT format and will have a better understanding  of its format and content.      As seniors, they will have experienced a form of both the ACT and the SAT. This will help them to decide which test to take.

Please fell free to contact Ms. Koczon in the guidance office if you have questions concerning EXPLORE. She can be reached via email or at ext. 121.
