Camp FAQs

BEFORE YOU REGISTER

MY CHILD HAS NEVER PLAYED BEFORE. IS THIS A GOOD CAMP FOR HIM/HER?
Absolutely! Because of the individualized attention we offer our campers, this is a great camp. In fact, we have many first-time athletes join our camps each year. Coaches will work with the athletes on their own level, so be sure to list experience on the registration form when asked.

MY CHILD IS EXPERIENCED, IS THIS CAMP THE RIGHT CAMP?
Yes! Our coach to player ratio is kept very low, which allows coaches to work with athletes on their individual skill levels. We have many athletes attend every year who play on various travel, club, and all-star teams. We make sure to work with these athletes on a more advanced level with the goal of getting them ready to succeed at the high school level when they get to that age.

ARE CAMPERS BROKEN UP BY SKILL OR AGE?
Campers are grouped by both AGE and SKILL. The registration form asks you to list grade in the fall, which is our starting point. The form also asks to list experience so that our coaches can best group players together.

I WANT TO TRY A NEW SPORT, BUT DON’T HAVE THE EQUIPMENT. DO I NEED TO BUY IT?
Be sure to check the drop down sections of our individual sports to see what equipment is required. In some cases, it will also state whether you need to purchase the equipment you don’t already own. If you still have questions, e-mail director@crusadercamps.com or call (973) 627-6674 ext. 165 to inquire about the specific camp(s) your child will be attending.

WHAT IS THE STRUCTURE OF THE CAMP DAY?
Camps place a strong emphasis on skill, with an element of summer fun. Campers are broken down by both age and experience in order to maximize the benefit of coach instruction. Skills are learned and practiced in the morning, with games, tournaments, and competitions after lunch. We also have guest speakers, speed training, slip ‘n slide, and themed days.

WHAT IS THE RATIO OF COACHES TO CAMPERS?
Campers are coached at a maximum ratio of 10 campers per coach. Many of our camps have a ratio lower than this. We strive to keep our camps at a low ratio of children to coaches to maximize instruction and keep the camps as individualized as possible.

BEFORE CAMP PROGRAM

WHY IS THERE NO PRE-CAMP PROGRAM ON MONDAYS?
Our pre-camp program begins at 8:00 each morning. We don’t have early drop-off on Mondays because check-in begins at 8:00 as well. Feel free to come right at 8:00 and our coaches and counselors will take your children to the fields or gym as soon as they are checked-in.

WHAT GOES ON AT THE BEFORE CAMPS PROGRAMS?
Our before camp drop off is designed especially for working parents. The program is intended as fun for the kids without tiring them out. They will play supervised games, both indoor and outdoor, as well as watch movies on some days.

MISCELLANEOUS

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT’S REALLY HOT OUTSIDE?
Since it is summer, we know it can get really hot. We make sure all campers have plenty of water to drink throughout the day, and many water breaks during activities. If a day is too hot for outdoor activities to be safe, we will work on drills indoors, where there is air conditioning.

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS?
For the outdoor sports, we will continue to play in light rain. If it is raining too hard, or if there is any thunder or lightening, events will be moved indoors for the day.

IS THERE A BUS?
There is no bus to pick the children up from their homes. All campers must be dropped off at the school each day. If you would be interested in a carpool, e-mail director@crusadercamps.com or call (973) 627-6674 ext. 165 to see if there is anyone to carpool with in your area.
